The Southwest Border Area
On February 1903 Oxnard had a strike involving Japanese workers and Mexican workers; they formed the Japanese Mexican Labor Association. They were on strike because the Western Agricultural Contracting Company was holding back wages and they did not want to have a subcontracting system because they will be force to pay double commission. The association recruited more than ninety percent of the workers during the sugar beet season. During this time the strike had a turning point when one of the strikers was killed, the death was blamed on the violence of the striker, the strikers have a different opinion. However, the association was not able to be successful in achieving it goals, but it was successful in uniting two races.

The Empty Interior
Oxnard doesn’t have mountains but it bounded by the Santa Monica Mountains. The Santa Monica Mountains extend forty miles from Hollywood Hills all the way to Ventura. The climate in the mountains is very dry, during the winter is cool. However, the mountains do not get cold enough to have snow. Well maybe once there was a little snow but just in the tips of the mountains. The summers are wet and mild. Due to the dry climate in the mountains wildfires may occur. Most of the Santa Monica Mountains are national recreation areas. The mountains have over twenty regional parks like Griffith Park and Elysian Park.

The Great Plains
The Oxnard plain is located southwest of Ventura. The plains are surrounded by the Santa Monica Mountains, the Santa Susana Mountains and the Oak ridge. To the east the plains have the Topatopa Mountains and to the north the Santa Clara River. The plains are home to the western part of the Oxnard/Thousand Oaks area like Ventura, Camarillo, Port Hueneme, Santa Paula, El Rio, Saticoy and Somis. The plains have two large oil fields the Oxnard Oil Field and the Montalvo Oil Field.
The southern coastlands
